Gregory Spawton was born in Shropshire of English / Italian parentage. He spent most of his formative years living in Sutton Coldfield near Birmingham.
He took up the guitar and began writing songs when he was 17. After reading archaeology at uni, he moved to Bournemouth where he formed Big Big Train with Andy and Ian.
Greg's musical influences include Genesis, Van Der Graaf Generator, Premiata Forneria Marconi, Mew, Sigur Ros, Oceansize, Sparklehorse, Prefab Sprout, XTC, John Taverner and John Barry.
When not writing songs for Big Big Train, Greg spends much of his time reading books aboutÊhistory and archaeology.
Greg lives in a house with his two children, Eleanor and John.
